There are many things to consider when starting your own clothing line. I will be breaking this topic up into a series of posts so visit this blog often. (Hint: subscribe via the RSS feeds posted at the top right of the page).
First, you'll want to study the fashion industry and the market. Here are some things to find out:
How big the market is for your product- revenue, units, average selling price, etc.
Who is your target market? Imagine who you want to sell to and who your perfect customer is. Describe them in detail.
What are your customer's needs? You can find this out by conducting surverys or interviewing people in the industry
What are the different segments of your target market (by needs, demographics, etc)
How are you going to market to these customers? (through what type of media or message)
What are the best channels to sell to these customers - retail, wholesale, or distributors?
The information you gather will form the basis of your marketing and strategic business plan. Congratulations! You're on the road to success... :)
To be continued...

I look forward to more on this subject. My daugther is very interested in this and we have discussed it at length. She has some experience so it isn't all a pipe dream. What fashion-minded woman wouldn't want to have her own clothing line? Yeeha!
