
Chantel Rousseau, Bloomingdale's vice president for Europe, offers her advice to the fashion designers showing this week in Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week:
"I am very enthusiastic about India's potential but to succeed abroad, the designers need to be more professional and corporate."
Rousseau also advises that designers take the initiative to build relationships with retailers.
I agree that designers should be business minded, but I don't think they necessarily have to be "corporate". People can be successful anywhere with the right attitude and the right contacts. When you get caught up in the corporate mindset, I believe that you begin to lose some of that creativity.
