Since We're On the Subject of Clothing Sizes...

I was oogling over the purses at Pursed Lips, when I noticed an ad from Glam.com on the left hand side of the page (It may or may not be there anymore...take a look).

The banner ad starts with this question:

Not a Perfect 6?

Not my first choice of words to use in a fashion ad....Since when was a size 6 perfect?  I wear a size six and can tell you that I am not in any way "perfect".

If only there was a way to grafitti websites... I would have "x"ed out the word "perfect". Better yet, I would have just grafittied over the ad.... hee...hee...

Hm, I like the ad. I was down to a size, 8, well, I lost that. Do you know that there is a HUGE difference between a 10 and an 8? That's EVIL! I have NO pants options! Anyway, The Limited's pants run larger (heading there, tomorrow), and I was A _6_, BABY! Oh, yeah. And oh, I was not perfect---but I'm short. But the ad made me feel better about being an almost-8 (that's a big goal size, isn't it?).

But on to what I REALLY wanted to comment about. I DID edit an ad I had on Kiss Me, Stace, for a point that was outside of the ad's own for an article (totally wasn't bad for the company) but I had to remove it. So yeah, not good. Hee hee.

Anyway (again), what I think that means is, "do you not fit perfectly into those size 6 jeans?" Oh, god, I don't!

(And do you know that their capris/shorts run on even different sizing? Totally small. I'm confused and lost. ... And soon to be bottomless.)

It's funny that the sizes are different for each company. For instance, I can be a size 6 or 8 at Express and then go to Gap and be a size 2. It's very confusing - there should be a standard size for all companies - that way I don't have to try on 5 different pairs of jeans (very time consuming, by the way).

Hey Maria et al -

Thanks for pointing out your thoughts about the ad. I recently began advising Glam on their blog network and how to increase the voice of the bloggers etc. I can tell you that we want your feedback. I will pass it on to the creative team. It is good to to hear how some ideas can be perceived.

But you also gave me an idea. If you could design an ad about why you blog about fashion, what would it say? I am toying with a fun idea that would involve the fashion blogging community. Feel free to send me an email or post here.
