A Tip For Salespeople

I once walked into a BeBe store and browsed around for quite some time.  Not one sales person approached me or even acknowledged that I was there.  Did I not wear deodorant that day?  Was it something about me that they didn't like?

Then it hit me - oh, I'm not dressed like them.  I get it.

A friend relays a time when she walked into a Guess store wearing cut-off shorts, flip flops and a tank top - you know, the typical Cali outfit - and like me, was snubbed by the sales people.  This friend is actually a very successful person in the fashion industry who was ready to spend plenty of money in that Guess store, but spent it another store instead.

This is not to say that all salespeople in these stores are stuck-up...but brings me back to a point I made before, "Don't Judge A Book By It's Cover..." You just never know!

I actually have always liked to be left alone in stores. When I need something, I'll head right to an employee and say, "excuse me" (in my little voice, though, hmm). :-)

I generally like to be left alone too, but I think it would be common courtesy to just say, "Hi! How are you today?" It's a fundamental principle in customer service...

I remember a time when I had more money and less time to shop, and would've liked the stores to be like McD's: I could just walk in and order what I want. Except that I could never find anyone willing to talk to me.

Then I remember another time when I had a fresh haircut and it seemed like overnight the salespeople wanted to talk to me.

My latest trick? Start grabbing clothes, like I am going to be heading to the fitting rooms. Works everytime!
