We're seeing this new trend in retailing...more and more companies
that were once catering to the young, hip diva are now oggling over the baby boomer women. Why? Simply because these women have money. No longer do the college and young professional women have the power - women 35 and older now have the buying power. These women spent about half of the $101.6 billion spent on clothing between March 2005 and April 2006, according to this article.
"I think the reason they haven't been paid attention to in the past is because we are so trained to see fashion on very young models and young bodies," says Brenda Kinsel, a style expert.
Companies like Gap, American Eagle, and Gymboree Corp are or will be coming out with brands that are aimed at baby boomers.
It only makes sense. Go where the money is.
