I remember the first time I tried on clothes at Macy's. I was in the third? grade with a childhood friend named Stephanie. Her mom was my teacher at the time and somehow Stephanie and I became good friends....
Anyhow, Stephanie and I were at Macy's trying on clothes and left quite a mess in the dressing room. I wanted to pick up the clothes, but Stephanie said to just leave them in there. I felt uneasy at the time about leaving a mess for someone else to pick up, but peer pressure led me to be a "little pig". Little did I know that I was going to turn into such a freakaholic cleanaholic Manager when I worked for Wet seal.
That memory came to me as I read an article about Macy's rebranding the Marshall Field's in Chicago...
Over the years it's interesting to see how Macy's has changed. I can see Macy's is really starting to step up their game with an add-on of new brands to include House of Dareon, Lacoste, and Free People. I always thought of Macy's as the in-between department store...not as "old school" as Sears or "fancy" as Saks.
My experience with Macy's has been OK overall. I wouldn't say that they give phenomenal service or anything - and oftentimes you can't find anybody around to help you. Plus, I just sometimes feel a twinge of claustorphobia when I shop in Macy's stores.
I was in the Macy's store in San Francisco a few years ago shopping for shoes. I think you need a whole day to shop in that store.... literally! No joke. The store was about seven stories high and one whole floor was dedicated to shoes. I was dizzy and faint.. I couldn't breathe as a hopped from one shoe to the other...desperately wanting to scream because there were shoes EVERYWHERE. I couldn't even tell you what color the carpet was (ok, exaggerating there a little!)
But, I think I like where Macy's is headed...now if they could just step up their customer service...
