A study was done at the University of Alberta School of Business (Canada) where they found that shoppers are less likely to buy clothing that someone else has touched. I think it a little odd that someone would come up with a research study like this...but understandable that people don't like clothes that others have touched. Plus, people also reported that they perceive the product's value to be "diminished" if someone else had touched it. (???)
My only issue is those disgusting deodorant marks on shirts...
In a statement at the Toronto Fashion Monitor: "People like to touch products, but now we've found that they really don't like it if someone else has touched them first," said Dr. Jennifer Argo, a professor at the University.
Well, the reason this study was conducted was to teach retailers to eliminate any evidence that someone has touched articles by keeping them folded as much as possible and to get clothes out of fitting rooms as quickly as possible (yeah, right!). Tell that to Macy's!
