I don't know when I first discovered Zoe Hong's blog, Verbal Croquis, but I immediately took a liking to it because of her humorous and witty posts, not to mention that she is a very talented fashion designer. After learning about her big Gen Art /Perrier "Bubbling Under" win I knew I had to interview her before she became this famous uber designer and no longer had time for fashion writers like me ;)
I'm ecstatic and my hands are sweating like mad as I type up this post because like I told Zoe, this is going down in fashion /TheRunwayScoop/blogger history. I got to interview the fantabulous Zoe Hong when she was starting out on her road to stardom.
Well, enough of my babble. Let's get down to the nitty-gritty. Before I go into the first part of a two-part interview, let's watch this video featuring the award winner herself:
Now that you've won the Gen-Art competition, what do you see in the future for yourself?
More confidence in my design work. In combination with the local design competition I won last year, I think what's going to be the most lasting effect will be more positive attitudes towards my own abilities, and of course, that can only lead to some exciting adventures. I'm never one to sit idle! Stay tuned.
When did you realize that fashion design is your passion?
When I saw my mom's JCPenney's catalog back when I was a tot. I opened the bridal section and swooned over all the pretty, poufy dresses. I have a photograph of myself, I think I was about 6 years old, playing outside with a friend, clutching onto a Penney's catalog for dear life.
(Hmmm...I do remember browsing the JCPenney catalog from beginning to end as a young fashionista! It's funny - the similarities...)
What mantra do you live by?
Work as hard as you can, but never lose track of your sanity points.
Manners count.
You can work hard, party hard, and sleep. The catch is you only get to pick two.
Tomorrow Zoe will share with us what inspires her and her thoughts on blogging. Stay tuned!
