In relation to a previous post on the future of fashion blogging, I came across Kate's post where she offers her opinion on the top three challenges personal publishing creates for traditional media. In her words:
1) Traditional media pushes information toward the user...This threatens traditional media because as a user of a blog, (or other means of personal publishing) one is able to pull information that interests him/her.
2) Bloggers who establish credibility and attract advertisers show readers that they are trustworthy to report the news, and because the internet has an unlimited amount of space to publish stories that may interest readers, there is a greater chance that people will substitute traditional forms of media for new media.
3) People who were traditionally considered “the audience” now have the ability to monitor the business of journalists and prominent figures in society...This threatens traditional media because due to the ability to connect and share information with others via the internet, activist and other interest groups are able to expose information that powerful people (and corporations) want to hide.
