
Being somewhat of a conservative dresser, I've taken a keen interest
in Middle Eastern style clothing and dress. My philosophy is that you don't have to "show skin to be 'in'".
So, I find it interesting that The Middle East will soon be distributing the fashion magazine, Elle, in the region while Saudi Arabia will be receiving its own "conservative" version later this year, according to this article. I'm curious to see what a "conservative" and censored version of a fashion magazine will look like.
I found an interesting article which includes a fashion theory as it relates to the Muslim culture. Here's a snippet:
"Muslim women are not always wearing what traditionally might be considered Islamic styles of clothing; they negotiate and maneuver within a commercial realm of style and clothing that seems to contradict the stereotype of the religiously minded unliberated woman. While I would argue that fashion systems in the Muslim world vary greatly from those in the West, I feel that it is dangerous to say that commercial fashion does not exist for Muslim women."

I've read somewhere that the cover ups muslim women wear 'protect' them against men's eyes.
