Bikini season is in full force and as I go shopping, read other fashion blogs, and browse magazines I'm bombarded with all these different styles of bikinis or swimsuits! How am I to choose? They all scream at me, "Buy me! Buy me!"
I was reading the June 2006 issue Allure Magazine and want to share
some bikini facts that I learned and think are pretty interesting. Who knew?
- In 1943 wartime rationing led the U.S. government to order a 10% reduction in the fabric used in women's swimwear
- Three years later the French engineer, Louis Reard invented the official bikini, which he named after the Bikini Atoll, where atomic bombs were tested that year.
My thoughts:
Ok, the U.S. government were perverts back then! They wanted to use the "wartime rationing" excuse just to see more skin. And why would you want to name a fashion piece after a place where atomic bombs were tested? If that's not random, I don't know what is!
