As I see the 80's come back full force into retail stores, I start to wonder whatever happened to being "fashion forward"? Yes, I know that fashion comes back in cycles, but says who? Just because that's been the case for years now, why do we succumb to this fashion cycle? This may be the part of me speaking who doesn't want to be reminded about parts of my past life, but I feel that somehow I am supposed to be speaking to those people who have a hard time dealing with change.
I embrace designers like Karl Lagerfeld and Nicolas Ghesquiere because of their innovation and their ability to simply "think outside the box". Granted, I may not necessarily like some of their creations, but I admire that they continue to inspire us to be unique and just dress for ourselves. Of course, not too many of us can afford their designs, so we're left to deal with retailers who go for what's in demand. Unfortunately, what's in demand is 80's fashion...again.
On a side note - I saw a guy the other day wearing a polo shirt with his collars popped up! Yikes! Next thing you know we'll be seeing acid-washed jean jackets all over the place ;)
I think it may be time for me to break out and dust off the sewing machine....
