It's a showdown between Diane Von Furstenberg, the queen of wrap
dresses, and Joseph Abboud, a menswear designer. They're vying for the presidency of the Council of Fashion Designers of America and it will be up to the 26-member board to decide the fate of these two highly esteemed candidates.
Eric Wilson of the New York Times says this in an article published today:
"It is not that choosing a new president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America for the first time in 16 years is inconsequential. The leader of the council, the fashion trade group, must promote the cause of American designers on a global stage, combat fashion piracy, mediate the disputes of creative egos, champion struggling younger talents and coddle struggling older talents."
That's quite a bit of responsibility. It's no wonder many designers have turned down the offer including Calvin Klein and Donna Karan.
Stay tuned for the winner!
