I've always admired urban fashion in Japan. The Japanese have a way
with adding their own twist to urban gear, whether it be striped leggings with sneakers or creatively accessorizing in color combinations that we generally don't see here in the Western hemisphere.
I would like to see Japan climb the ranks in the fashion world. Japan's Fashion Week doesn't seem to get much attention, but this year JETRO, Japan External Trade Organization, would like to change that. Their strategy is to have an aggressive marketing campaign with ads in WWD's Section II and to provide rent-free booths to young and up and coming fashion designers. Generally at a trade events like this, fees for booth space are pretty high which prevents new designers with low budgets from participating.
Advertising in foreign countries and press releases like the one I read are certainly the way to go if you want to get the word out about an event. It is my hope that Japan succeeds in making a presence in the fashion world. It's time for the industry to have some fresh new flavor!
