For those of you who are loyal to Marshall Field's, you may or may not
know about the Chicago Marshall Field's Fan Blog called FieldsFansChicago. Many are in a huff about the recent acquisition of Macy's and the move to change the name. Customers are so upset about the change that many of them will not even return to the store after the September 9th conversion.
Here are the words from the founder of the blog:
"This website is for, by and about fans of Marshall Field’s, in their recognition of this distinctly Chicago institution and how it has contributed significantly to Chicago’s reputation as a world-class city in design, fashion, architecture, culture and philanthropy."
I wonder if Federated execs even fully thought out the negative impact that they are making. Why the need to change the name? What's the big deal? Do they not want their customers to be happy?
I'm not familiar with Marshall Field's, but I can imagine it would be a similar situation if for example, Macy's took over Nordstrom's and wanted to change the name. You know there would be a revolt if that happened!
