One of my favorite things to say is "You just never know what's going
to happen...." When you're a fashion designer that has made it on a show like Project Runway, there's no telling what doors may open for you. And even if you're not determined the "winner" of the contest, there are certainly many other ways that you can become a winner. Take Kara Janx, for instance. An article at The Boston Globe says that a dress that got a thumbs down from Michael Kors turned out to make quite a bit of money for Janx.
This brings to mind again the subjectivity of this industry. Just because Michael Kors says he doesn't like something doesn't mean that the whole world thinks the same way. You will always find somebody out there who is going to appreciate your designs and have the same style as you. Michael Kors is a great designer himself, yes, but his word is not bond.
I'll end with some food for thought from Julie of Almost Girl...
"It is a troubling notion to definitively say what is or isn’t fashionable, trendy, or for that matter in style. Fashion is an aesthetic profession which means in the end all choices are somewhat subjective. This is not to say that there isn’t good and bad, but the lines are certainly fuzzier..."
By the way, for all you Project Runway fans, the third season starts on July 12 with 15 new designers! You can also get all the great scoop about the show at Blogging Project Runway.
