Last month I talked about how Payless is coming out with a new line of 
shoes called Abaete... Well now I find out that the company (Payless ShoeSource, Inc.: PSS) has opened up a store on Fifth Avenue. Fifth Avenue, you say? Yes, THE Fifth Avenue - home to the top of the top retailers. Payless execs have dubbed the store the "Fashion Lab", their biggest experiment yet in company history. And here's the killer, they don't plan on raising the prices! Well, maybe 50 cents more, according to CEO Matt Rubel. Of course, the company has taken on a new design for the store, making it look more "upscale" - because in business we know it's all about perception and atmosphere...As Rubel says, ""It makes the $12 shoe look like a $20 shoe."
