I have memories of my little Barbie doll collection...actually, it wasn't a collection in the original sense of the word because I did take them out of their boxes to play. And oh, was I thrilled when mom bought this Barbie carrying case that had the built-in closet. It was all over after that. Mom heard me beg and plead day after day to get more Barbie clothes. Pretty soon Barbie's wardrobe became bigger than mine. If Gucci made Barbie clothes back then, I would've been all over that too!
These memories come to mind after reading this article at Telegraph
about the Barbie auction at Christie's, London this September. The Ietje Raebel and Marina Collection is from 1959-2002 and reflects fashion history including a Barbie dressed like Jackie O, the "Gay Parisienne Barbie from 1959, the "Poodle Parade Barbie", and many, many more. The collection is estimated at over £100,000 in value. Read more of the article...
Sidenote: A friend asked me once if I would buy Barbie for my little girl (if I had a little girl!) and my answer was "No". Until they change the body shape of Barbie, I will refuse to buy it....
