Over at AskMen.com, writer Maggie Kalogeropoulos "debunks" some of the fashion misperceptions and sets the record straight:
Fashion Myth #1 - No white after Labor Day - Today, we’ve come to the realization that climate doesn’t control color. While certain colors may be in style in different seasons, your color pallet should never be limited.
Fashion Myth #2 - Your shoes and belt must be the same color - As long as the color of your belt and shoes belong to the same family, you’ll look sharp.
Fashion Myth #3 - Don’t mix patterns - Mixing patterns can be a very sophisticated and fashion-forward look, but only if you have the know-how to pull it off.
Fashion Myth #4 - Cufflinks and tie bars are out of style - Nothing adds more sophistication and style to your suit than these two accessories.
Fashion Myth #5 - Steel-band watches go with everything - Invest in a leather band watch. This is the only type of wrist wear acceptable for those formal occasions.

If you have the right know-how, pretty much any style rules can be broken. Apart from bright turquoise crocodile skin ponty-toed shoes. They look okay-ish on womens heels but NOT on mens shoes. Not naming a certain Dad.
