The Extra Tasty blog has a great post about "The Future of Fashion Distribution" which analyzes some alternative ways to distribute your product including this suggestion that I like:
"People Power: Obviously the consumer is the final member of the chain - the people you make the clothes for and the reason every single one of you (retailer, wholesaler, supplier) exist. Well…Why are you wasting your time having retailers distribute it for you when the end consumer will do just as well? I’ve been trying to develop this idea but it’s a hard one when you lack the time to think it out properly (aren’t all ideas, actually?) If you pay an hourly rate and a commission on each garment sold you’re effectively giving them a very good wage. Only let 5-10 people in an entire city capable of selling the goods and once the word is out there’s a lot of viability. These people have no overheads like store rent, they (if chosen right) would be the trendsetters and fashion-forward types - the socially well connected (think Tipping Point) and would be natural ambassadors for your product. You make more, they make a good amount, you’re working directly with the consumer for the
consumer…Win win - theoretically."
Network marketing companies like Avon have been following this type of business model for ages and obviously they're doing something right to survive this long. Word-of-mouth marketing and customer evangelism are the least costly ways of letting people know about your company. I can testify to this!
By the way, Extra Tasty would like your comments on this poster pictured here! Personally, I think it's different and I do like the still life composition. Better than what I've been seeing in fashion magazines lately!
