I’ve been meeting with a business partner regarding an art project that we’re working on and we had a long discussion about “being different”. Him being in the advertising business for so many years who is now an artist and me being just an all-around artist period (I don’t like to give myself a label - it limits the possibilities) - we both like to think “outside the box”. And I know I’ve probably talked about this before, but I can’t seem to stress enough how important it is to be different in this ever growing, fast-changing industry. We’re bombarded day and night with all this fashion. Ok, maybe “bombarded” isn‘t the right word - because I can’t seem to get enough! However, you know what I mean... There are just sooooo many choices nowadays.
So I challenge anyone who wants to break into this industry to really sit down and ask yourself, Ok, what about my company/designs is going to make people want to buy from me? Am I the designer that is going to come out with a new basic? Am I the designer that has the magnetic personality that everyone loves? Am I the designer that is going to be over the top? Take a look at Donatella Versace or Nicolas Ghesquiere - they've become legends in fashion history because of their creativity.
You just can’t be mediocre anymore - you need to inspire people and make fashionistas feel beautiful! People want stories.... What story are you going to tell?
