Teen retailers Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF) and American Eagle (AEOS) are both looking very good according to their Q2 earnings. For Abercrombie, the company’s profits rose 14 percent while sales grew 15%. American Eagle’s net income rose 24% and sales increased 17%. The question that goes through my mind is, are these companies selling more to the male customers or female customers?
I could understand if it were mainly teen male customers purchasing from these shops, but for females....Well, maybe teen girls are more casual these days, at least in California they are. However, I did read somewhere that for the fall, teens will be going for more of the fashion forward brands such as H & M. I was one who liked to dress up a little in high school and opted to shop in places like Contempo Casuals or Wet Seal.
Well, it seems that Gap is out of the picture for now when it comes to casuals. Abercrombie and AE are going strong into back-to-school season. I did see a few of the new Gap ads and it looks like they’re adding a bit of “sexiness” into the picture. We’ll just have to wait and see if it works.
