Neiman Marcus Plans Growth and My Thoughts on the Latest Ad

Well, my dear readers, I’m back into the swing of things and trying to catch up on all the latest fashion news. The first thing I came to today was this article about Neiman Marcus’s plans to expand the main chain as well as its Last Call chain. Right now the company has 38 stores and the goal is to reach the 50-store level. This announcement comes at a time when the company has reported a fourth-quarter loss due to its buyout last year.

This has nothing to do with the article about Neiman Marcus’s growth, but here in San Diego I’ve seen Neiman Marcus billboards and ads promoting their chocolate. It shows a model wearing a red fancy dress with red gloves posing while holding a piece of chocolate. Sure, it’s an eye-catching billboard only because of the color, but it’s not compelling enough for me to say, “Wow, I must go buy that chocolate at Neiman Marcus!” Isn’t Neiman Marcus’s core customer after the fashion anyways? Do they really think they can make alot of money from the chocolate ads? However, I do have to say that their chocolate dipped potato chips are scrumptious!
