Well, brown is the new black, thanks to the influence of our favorite place - Starbucks! The whole notion of color forecasting is a fascinating one, and is all about cycles. A couple of 'things' will happen simultaneously [e.g., an art exhibit, a popular movie, a global event] with some common color elements. Awareness of those colors will grow, and then we start seeing stuff in those colors showing up. Then too much of those colors shows up, people get tired and start yearning for something fresh and new. And then the cycle starts up again. The interesting thing about CMG is that color professionals in different industry groups will get together on a regular basis and talk about what they are seeing in the marketplace, and whether that is a fad or a trend and worth watching. As much as I follow my own internal color muse, when I start seeing combinations of the colors I like [especially if I haven't seen them in a while], I will buy. When things were a sea of beige, I stayed away from stores. And then there are the timeless things -like animal prints - that never go away because they are classics, yet also appear in pop culture - The Cheetah Girls! So, the big deal with color forecasting is that companies no longer question that color plays a big role in women's lives. Instead, they have embraced the power of color! Imagine if we were still in the world of the model T Ford, available only in black!!! Ugh.
