I've often wondered why fashion designers design certain pieces knowing that many women wouldn't dare walk out of the house wearing those pieces. Take, for instance, some of the Balenciaga outfits for the Spring 2007 line are pretty "out there". Many women will agree with me! Can you actually picture yourself these outfits? ![]()
This brings up the topic of translating what we see on the runway into our "reality". Do designers create these pieces simply for the aesthetic aspect without any regard to whether or not it is wearable? Is there a battle to see who can create the weirdest outfit? Then I wonder if perhaps this notion of "reality" should be changed. Why can't our reality be futuristic fashion like Balenciaga portrays?
