Liz Claiborne Acquires Kate Spade: Thoughts and Dialogue

Well, the big news for me today is that Liz Claiborne, Inc. (LIZ) has bought Kate Spade from the Neiman Marcus Group for a reported $124 million. This is another move to add high quality brands to its portfolio that already includes companies such as Ellen Tracy, Lucky Brand, and Juicy Couture.

Jennifer Black of Jennifer Black & Associates is quoted in this article as saying, “Liz has a winning track record that demonstrates it is capable of turning Kate Spade into a whole lifestyle brand and could be another power brand like that of Juicy Couture, with huge potential."

Hmmm...Isn’t Kate Spade already a whole lifestyle brand already? In my opinion Kate Spade is bigger than Juicy Couture, isn’t it?
