I never understood how or why Michael Jordan would allow Nike to put a hefty price tag of $150+ on his Air Jordan basketball shoes. All the kids wanna be like Mike, so they’re begging their mom or dad to buy them a pair of basketball shoes - so they can be “cool“ of course - yet the parents can barely put food on the table. The funny thing is, the parents will actually go out and buy these coveted shoes! ![]()
So I give my props to Stephon Marbury (with the help of The Mastermind Group) for coming out with a basketball shoe that costs only $15! Note to self: Add Stephon Marbury to list of people to meet ;)
I’m not saying that putting a high price tag on your clothing is unjustified. However, when you’re dealing with urban kids who look up to these basketball players and want what they offer - and I mean these kids are sometimes willing to hurt people for shoes - I feel that basketball players have somewhat of a responsibility to offer more affordable shoes for them. You don’t hear too many stories (if at all) of girls killing other girls for their Louis Vuitton bag, but killing for basketball shoes is another story….
