“Your suggestion that $449 shoes would be an appropriate accessory for a Halloween costume demonstrates that you don’t know your readers and don’t take their questions or pocketbook constraints seriously...Your recommendation was ludicrous, wholly unhelpful, and a tad insulting to someone who wrote to you genuinely seeking fashion advice.”
Of course, Manolo apologizes - the gracious person that he is - and explains that the boots he suggested could be worn after Halloween and besides, cheap shoes don’t cut it in his book.
However, this post really isn’t about whether or not to wear cheap shoes. It’s the idea that this person pretty much attacked Manolo for “not knowing his readers“. This “non-fan” also says:
“The readers of your Express column are taking public transportation and picking up a free newspaper. We’re not cheap, but you can bet we will never, ever spend $449 on shoes.”
In defense for Manolo, I would like to say that I am a reader and I, for one, wouldn’t mind paying $449 for a pair of shoes. Yes, you can have well-made, expensive shoes! Just save a little here and there and instead of buying ten pairs of cheap shoes for the season, buy three or four good quality shoes.
Just my two cents.
