I was browsing through the
Oprah Magazine today and came across an article by Simon Doonan titled “
The Plain Truth About the Beautiful People”. In this article Doonan talks about the people he idolized back in the 60’s like Jackie O and princesses. These fashion icons were put on pedestals and oh, did everyone want to live their glamorous life. Wonderful homes and couture fashion to wear everyday. Who wouldn’t want that?
However Doonan comes to find out that our society has become worse than it

was back in the 60’s. Now there’s the Brangelinas and Beyonces who are the icons of today. We still want to be like these people, but little do we know that
it is within our reach. We can look just as beautiful as Tyra Banks or Jessica Alba. In fact, Doonan also realizes that these icons that we look up to are...real people. They’re just like us with problems and issues. If anything, they may even have more problems because of constant public scrutiny.
We live in a society where we have access to just about any beauty product, fashion style or couture piece we want (within our budget, of course). But hey, never be down about what you don’t have. I still don’t own a set of Louis Vuitton luggage or lips like Angelina Jolie, but I’m happy and grateful with what I do have...and that’s what counts!
