For those of you who don’t know, to keep up with all the “skinny” news I read Stephanie Quilao’s
Back in Skinny Jeans Blog (Such the blogging fanatic she is!) However, I haven’t visited her blog lately and noticed that there were like 30+ posts to catch up on! Little did I know that there has been a great deal of support in the fashion industry regarding the skinny model issue. For one,
Diane
Von Furstenberg sent out a letter to the Council of Fashion Designers of America asking them to take a stance on this “epidemic”.
It’ll be interesting to see the first designer break the status quo and have some “real” models out there on the runway! “Real” meaning women who are of average height and weight - the ones who represent the majority of women in the world.
Who will meet the challenge?
Hey Maria. Thanks for the kudos. Yes, there has been quite a flurry on the fashion scene regarding setting some standards regarding models and their weight and age. I find it very exciting, and my idealist side is hoping that finally we'll start seeing some positive changes.
For the most part, the standard guidelines for the next wave of fashion shows will include: models must be over 16 years old, and depending on the city, models must have a BMI over 18.5 and/or medical cerification from a doctor that they are in good health.
Now, as you say, who will actually walk the talk? All eyes will be on these folks at the big shows, and I hope the fashionistas come through on their promise because nothing is more unattractive than hypocrisy.
