With 2007 just beginning, I have positive feelings on what’s in store for the fashion industry. One of the things that I predict will happen in fashion (thanks to
Back in Skinny Jeans for tagging me) is that more companies will become more aware of their customers, the global community at large, and make efforts to bond with them.
You see, I’ve always thought of the fashion industry as very ego-centered with

most fashion designers and companies only thinking about their creations and how much money they are making. However, I’m beginning to see this shift in thinking. With charity campaigns such as the
Join Red campaign among many others, I sense that people will start joining the ranks of
Warren Buffett and realize that it’s time to give back to the community.
However, if I may be cynical for a moment and say that sometimes I do wonder what the true intentions of the people who use fashion and big name brands to lure in people to buy products when only a very small portion of the proceeds go to the charity. But then again, every little bit counts. Is the fashion industry indeed exploiting these charities?
Anyhow, there are other ways to be community-centric besides giving money to the needy. This is exemplified by Nordstrom and their Black History Month exhibit. A simple tribute can be just as beneficial as giving money, eh?
