PETA Protests: Do They Work?
In fashion news around the world, I came across this little tidbit about a PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) protest in Hong Kong.  During a show at the annual fashion week expo, PETA activists jumped onstage with signs saying “Fur hurts” and shouting anti-fur phrases.  petaprotest.jpg

Frankly, I don’t think these types of protests really work.  PETA has been doing these kinds of things for quite some time now.  Do you think that it’s going to change people’s minds?  Sure, it’s good to create awareness about a cause, but protests like this doesn’t create a positive aura for the message you’re trying to get across.  I don’t know about you, but I look at PETA as a group of people who have this anger and hatred for people or designers who use fur in their clothing.  I just think that there are better ways to communicate the message...

Pictured here is an activist who jumped on stage during the Roberto Cavalli Spring 2006 show in Italy.
