You might recall my little review awhile back about one of Gap’s newest brands, Forth & Towne. Well, it comes as somewhat of a surprise that the company has decided to close up shop. It seems that the market for baby boomers didn’t meet the company’s expectations. Little did they know that women over 35 were shopping at department stores more than specialty clothing stores. ![]()
But why quit after only 18 months? Well, in light of Gap’s current issues, it only made sense to them that the focus should stay on their core brands. I thought that Forth & Towne could have done well in the long run. Shouldn’t Gap have been a little more patient?
Arnold H. Aronson, the former chief executive of Saks, said, “Patience is a virtue where you are building a business where customers do not buy as impulsive or frequently as younger shoppers.” Oh, yes, patience. We need a little more of that these days.
