Times Online recently reported on this new “trend” involving the price increase of handbags. Seriously, what hasn’t increased in the past year? It’s still disturbing to me that women would literally go broke to own a designer handbag. As one woman said in the article, “I know a lot of women who will starve to get a handbag. I’ve got a lot of friends like that.” I recall someone saying to me one time that they ate Top Ramen for a month to buy a Louis Vuitton bag. I don’t know about you, but I love food too much to give it up over a piece of material - as pretty as that handbag may be. No sister, not this fashionista.

And as long as people are willing to pay thousands of dollars for a handbag, luxury companies won’t blink an eye. Although, wouldn’t it be interesting if companies started asking people to show a financial statement before they purchased something? That would make for responsible business, no?
