Fashion Industry discussion, review, analysis, news, and information

This afternoon I sat down at my laptop to start my daily blog reads, but after ten minutes I started to feel weary.  Looking out the window I could see the sun beaming down.  It was calling me to come out and play!  A voice in my head was saying “You know you want to go get a fashion magazine and just plop down with an iced mocha and relax.”  Yes, that’s exactly what I wanted to do and that’s what I did.  

Spring is the time for pretty dresses, pretty pedicures, and oh, so cute sandals.  I sat outside in the patio of the coffee shop with the newest issue of Glamour - giddy with excitement to see all the new pretty spring clothes in this big glossy magazine.  I had a flashback of a time when I went to my parents’ friend’s house and their friend brought out this vintage Vogue magazine from the 60‘s for me to look at.  She was saving it to give to her daughter someday, but that didn’t happen because she ended up having three boys.   I was in awe of the photography and thought that I would save some of my fashion magazines to show to my future daughter one day.  Now that I see where media is headed, I probably will go ahead and do that.

One glossy I will be saving...This Vogue magazine with Jennifer Hudson on the cover.  This particular magazine symbolizes the shift in thinking of the fashion industry and pop culture in general.  Here is a “full figured” African American woman making it on the cover of a big fashion mag.  She wasn’t even the winner of American Idol, yet has a thriving career in  show biz with an Academy Award and Golden Globe.  If that’s not inspiration, I don’t know what is.
