As I was reading Steve Hultgren’s post about the controversy Amanda Congdon has stirred up over at ABC, I realize that perhaps one of the reasons “old media” (newspapers, TV, etc.) feels a little resentment towards “new media” (blogs) because bloggers don’t have to follow the same rules that traditional media people do.  Many of us bloggers are freelancers who get to say pretty much whatever we want to say and don’t necessarily represent any big corporate infrastructures.  

I’m reminded of a time at the beginning of this blog when someone emailed me to question my “journalistic style”.  I understand that there are still many people out there who don’t have a clue what blogs are, so if you’re new to the blogging world, I would recommend reading Mike Sansone’s list of articles that will answer the question, “What is a Blog?”

The beauty of a blog is that the blogger’s personality and personal opinions can shine through without restriction while readers comments are equally without limit.  Moreover, bloggers are given the freedom to express themselves in other areas of media without rules and regulations.  

Perhaps things will change in the future, but for the sake of individuality and uniqueness, let’s hope not.
