“Based on the interviews it would seem that the main course of action seems to be finger pointing. Designers blame bookers, bookers blame models and Gisele blames parents. No one wants to take responsibility and everyone is too busy searching for a scapegoat to truly address the issues at hand.”
Oh, yes, don’t we love that. The Blame Game. Yet, nothing is still being done. All talk, no action.
I believe that the only way to get the industry to change is for fashion designers - especially prominent ones - to step up and deny skinny models from walking down the runway. I know a few have done that already. Or perhaps a designer could come hire models with different body shapes.
Any thoughts?

I agree Maria, that more designers need to take action and stop trying to pass the buck. Parents are only partially responsible in that they can - or should rather - control their children's mass media intake. But they don't control the mass media, nor do they control the fashion industry. The beauty standards are set by those two entities. The question is, are they more interested in selling the image - feeding people subliminal messages that often result in unhealthy beliefs - or in helping to make society more healthy. Since selling the image is a proven way to generate profits, I doubt they care much about the health of society.
