Just when you think social networking is at its peak, along comes something that makes you wonder if we've only just scratched the surface. The New York Times reports that IconNicholson, an interactive design firm in Manhattan, has developed a virtual mirror that allows you to try on clothing without actually putting it on. A camera takes live pictures of you and displays it on a website where online participants can view your outfit and give feedback. This feedback then pops up in the mirror like an instant message!
Right now this mirror is being tested in the Nanette Lepore department in Bloomingdale's and time will only tell how many more retailers will find this system useful. I like the idea of being able to call up a friend to get a second opinion on an outfit - that is, if the friend is close to a computer. Of course, it's not as good as having a friend shopping right there with you!

This virtual space is going beyond our present understanding. I know there is shopping on the net, who doesn’t, and, recently virtual offices to run your business. Now there is this service of trying clothes without wearing them. This would be useful in a virtual office, don’t you think?
