The other night my best friend and I sat at her kitchen table and read the Sunday newspaper. It's been awhile since I picked up a newspaper and suddenly I felt this odd feeling come over me - as if I was ancient. Who am I to be reading a newspaper? I blog. I read blogs. However, I felt this need to just relax and read a newspaper for a change.
Don't get me wrong. It's not that I'm too good for newspapers now, but I feel that we place too much value on what is said in the newspaper. Do people who write for newspapers - a.k.a "journalists" - have better credentials than someone who blogs? Is a beauty or fashion editor for a prestigious magazine really the be all and end all of fashion commentary or recommendations?
Yes, I do believe that the line between "journalist" and "blogger" is beginning to blur. Bloggers should be treated the same as journalists and also carry the same lawful protection - after all, we're all doing the same thing. We all write, express our opinions, tell a story, comment on current events, or what have you.
It's just going to take more time for people to adapt to this new way of expression. We're getting there...slowly but surely.

I totally agree! The titles of blogger and journalist are definitely merging considering that bloggers are now are being approached by PR companies to interview relevant people for their blogs and legit journalist now running blogs of their own or for the paper(s) they write for. Unfortunately, journalist are looked at as "real" and we bloggers are amateur writers.
