What Do Mother's Day, Consumerism, and the Fashion Industry Have in Common?

Retailers are going to cash in big time for Mother’s Day. According to a study conducted, consumers plan on spending $1.6 billion on clothes and accessories and $2.1 billion on jewelry. Of course, flowers and lunch and dinner will cost money as well…

Shopping Girl That’s quite a bit of money and I wonder how mom would feel if you used that credit card (again) to pay for her Mother’s Day gift. This also brings to mind whether or not the retail and fashion industries are partly to blame for people trying to Keep Up With the Jones.

Is consumerism in the fashion industry indeed based on self-esteem?
