I didn't get to watch the Miss Universe pageant, but a friend of mine wanted me to share this with you...
First of all I would like to say that I have great respect for Rachel Smith due to the fact that she conducted herself with confidence and pride throughout the rest of the competition after slipping and falling on the world stage of the Miss Universe Pageant last evening. I was channel surfing when I came across the pageant. The evening gown portion of the show was kicking off and only 10 contestants remained. I was curious to know if The United States was still being represented.
After a few contestants finished their catwalks across the stage I saw Miss USA come from behind the curtain. It seemed to me that as soon as she began to walk into view that someone had 'pulled the rug out from under her feet (so to speak)'. It felt like a twilight zone moment because it seemed to happen in slow motion. At that very moment I drew a correlation between that incident and the present state that Our Country America The Beautiful is in.
This is in no way being written to discredit Ms. Smith, but in a sense we as a country have fallen from grace in the eyes of our brother and sister countries. But as was shown in the character of Ms. Smith, we can choose to pick ourselves up and conduct ourselves with dignity and pride after such a monumental falling. I never saw the look of panic nor embarrassment on the face of Rachel Smith and that's what impressed me most.
I must say that after watching Ms. Smith represent our country last evening that her performance gave me a renewed sense of Pride because not only did she pick herself up, she picked up this country and represented it with respect and elegance. This is true strength-The Strength Of Character-not force. Metaphorically The Miss Universe Pageant Represents the Beauty Of Humanity. Thank you, Rachel, for picking us up!
