Can Fashion Designers Be This Catty?
Awhile back I wrote about a book I had started reading, Cool Chic by James Brady.  Brady was a publisher for WWD and Harper’s Bazaar back in the days of Coco Chanel and now has a column over at Forbes that talks about a hodge-podge of current events.  Super%20Chic%20Bookcover.jpg

Anyways, to this day I’m still reading Cool Chic.  Being that I read about five books at a time, sometimes it takes awhile for me to get through a whole book.   I never knew that designers could be so catty and competitive - sending spies to another fashion house to see what another designer has planned for the next season…blaming one another for copying a design.  It all seems so high school-ish, but I guess fashion without a tad bit of drama wouldn’t make for a good book.  Here is a tid bit of what Brady writes:

“And of course, there is some outright cheating.  There’s been very bitter talk between the House of Dior and the House of Saint Laurent in recent years with Saint Laurent convinced that some of his ideas were being leaked to Marc Bohan at Dior…”

I’m currently on page 75 and so far it’s been a decent read.  Brady definitely has hobbed-nobbed with big time fashion designers, but I often wonder if he stretches the truth just a little…
