My friend has a few thoughts to share...
Who made it illegal to mix brand names? Polo, Nautica, Ecko, and Girbaud are all high end brands of clothing, but why is there a stigma attached to wearing a combination of two or more brands at the same time? I must admit that even I feel off balance or guilty of some sort of fashion felony if I wear an Ecko shirt with Nautica jeans. I don't have the answers to the question that I have asked in this article, but I do have a theory. Maybe these Brand Names are exactly what they imply--Brand Names that are branded into our psyches sort of like cattle branding that indicates sole ownership or possesion--. When we wear Polo we subconsciously feel that we are representing the Polo brand although Polo isn't paying us to do so. We are actually paying Polo to be Branded in their Name, therefore it would feel as though we would be in violation of Fashion Law to wear any other Brand in conjuction with the Polo Brand. This theory may or may not hold true for you, but it does seem to justify the behavior of the masses. Just something to ponder.![]()
Here's my two cents:
I think that mixing brand names is ok as long as you're not wearing clothing plastered with logos. I'm perfectly fine with mixing my brands - the only thing that matters is that the outfit coordinates well. Labels don't count for anything in my book ;)
