When it comes to “rules” and “complaints” on this blog, I have to make an exception once in awhile. In reference to the complaints about celebrities and their collections which I talked about earlier, well, I was reminded by Ayomide of Fashion Graduate that there exceptions to the rule - like House of Dereon and L.A.M.B.
We have to give credit to Beyonce and her mother Tina Knowles for their designs. Tina Knowles does sew and design clothing while Beyonce gives her input. And let’s not forget Gwen Stefani and L.A.M.B. (Love.Angel.Music.Baby. - oh, gotta love that!) Gwen Stefani truly has her own unique style and she sewed her own ensembles back in the day. L.A.M.B. debuted back in 2003 and she’s been rockin’ ever since.
Here’s a video of Gwen Stefani's very first fashion show…
Well, I’m pretty excited to find out that after a three-season hiatus, Gwen Stefani will be showing at Bryant Park on the first day of New York Fashion Week! Read more over at Fashion Week Daily.

Thanks for clueing me in about Gwen Stefani. Her fashion show was nice. Not a big fan of the use of Jamaian colors but overall it was great. Did she come out with a line that was Harajuku influenced or is that the L.A.M.B. line?
To just comment again. I have no huge problem with celebrities using their name to sell their clothes *sike* but when I think back to the fashion greats: Coco Chanel, Oscar de la Renta, Geoffrey Beene, Pierre Cardin, Christian Dior etc. these people really know what designing consist of. Actually studying or having knowlege and experience about what a dart is or what seam allowance is or how different fabrics drape then I think you can really have an understanding of some of the fundamental of design and a lot of celebrities don't have this. Having a stylist create your look I think makes it easier for celebrities to learn what works and what doesn't. I guess they learn this over time but I just think it is to capitalize on a great industry not to express their fashion ideas. That's all I am saying. lol
