It's Almost Unanimous: Fashion Bloggers Tired of Celebrity Labels
Amen, sister, Amen.  That’s what I have to say about Joanne Molina’s post over at Second City Style.  She echoes the sentiments of many of us fashion bloggers (including The Shoeblogger, Coquette, plus many more) - the bloggers who believe that fashion is an individual thing and not something that was born from celebrities.

We could play the blame game and point fingers at the industry for hyping up celebrity fashion, but it goes without saying.  It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one who is just a tad bit tired of celebrities who take the credit for these creations.  I’m just waiting for a real designer to step up and say, “Hey, you know what, I’m the real designer behind this label.”  (Wouldn’t that make for a juicy blog?)

You know I agree. I started getting fed up when Puffy won a fashion award. Then followed J-Lo and others. Since it is black music month, I listed some fashion icon on my blog. After listing them I though how many of these people actually dressed themselves without a stylist. The only one I could give credit to was Beyonce, and that was only because her mother design and sews and Beyonce gives imput. But everyone else, suspect. We give so much credit to the celebrities but what about the people that make the celebrities look so great!... They are the real stars....

Ayomide,

I can understand that celebrities just want to capitalize on their popularity - I don't hate them for wanting to make more money ;) Maybe some of them do work hand-in-hand with the people who actually create them, but yes, many of them are suspect.

Thanks for taking the time to round these up. People are so tired of being duped into thinking they're buying a piece of a celebrity just because they pay for their name on a label... Love your thoughts and let's keeping fighting the good fight, right?

» House of Dereon and L.A.M.B.: Exceptions To the Rule from TheRunwayScoop
When it comes to “rules” and “complaints” on this blog, I have to make an exception once in awhile. In reference to the complaints about celebrities and their collections which I talked about earlier, well, I was reminded by Ayo... [Read More]

Palma, my name is Sarah and I work at www.truejeans.com. Your post viewing celebrities as unjust fashion innovators as well as designers rang true for me. We recently posted about Victoria Beckham's DVB line of jeans as well as Sarah Jessica Parker's new line Bitten and how it seems that every day celebrities are crowning themselves the next upcoming designer. I do think Sarah Jessica Parker?s new Bitten line has a refreshing concept and believe she plays a large part in designing the clothing because they seem to reflect her own style and wardrobe. Would it be safe to add her to the list of celebrities with credentials for designing along with Beyonce and Gwen Stefani?

Another issue with celebrities taking credit for fashion is them endorsing new lines. For example, Madonna and H&M. Palma what are your thoughts on celebrities not playing any part in the designing process but still receiving credit by having their name etched all over a new line like Madonna?
