In response to She's a Betty's post about Wet Seal's rendition of a Miu Miu dress, some people may wonder what the big deal is with copying fashion from the runways - or should I say "finding inspiration" from the runways. Well, let me break it down for you...

Imagine that you're a big name designer who just came up with a very unique design. This design has yet to be seen anywhere - especially the runways. You spend endless amounts of time sketching out this design and creating the prototype for it. You decide to debut this design in an upcoming fashion week where you will know that it will be a huge hit with the fashion editors of the world. Finally! You will have made your mark in the fashion world.
Suddenly a retailer comes along, copies your design, and mass produces it to be sold at a mere fraction of the cost of your piece. Your design is devalued and you get no credit or royalties for those sales.
Wouldn't you be just a little bit annoyed?
