Let's ponder this quote by Ralph Lauren for a moment...
It is every woman's dream to be able to look like those models in fashion magazines and on the runway. If it weren't so, then I don't think the fashion industry would be making so much money. If you don't believe this, then you're probably lying to yourself. Don't you want to look fabulous and vibrant? 
Should designers think about their customer when they create their designs or should they just go with what they want to express about themselves? I think what has made Ralph Lauren so successful is that he has found a balance between both. He designs with his customers in mind and he designs what he likes - not what others say he should like.
