Coutorture has a feature titled "Gold is the New Gold". I think gold is definitely here to stay. In terms of fashion accessories, gold did go away for a little while during the 90's, but it's made a strong comeback in recent years.
Remember back in the days when women wore gold nameplate necklaces? Even Carrie of Sex and the City donned one of them. I also recall when gold chain necklaces were piled on - of which Mr. T was famous for. Then there were the humongous chains worn by b-boys of days gone by, Run DMC.
