The Handbag: for some, something that just helps carry the necessities around. For others, a symbol of status and class.  For those of us who fit the description of the latter, we look at the handbag like a man would look at his most prized possession: the car.

It's something about a good handbag that can turn any off-the-rack outfit into something spectacular.  It's the handbag that has caused many a war come sale time, but it's also a symbol of peace.  The handbag has been known to put many designers on the fashion world map.  So popular that it even has a sub-species called the "It Bag".

I recall the year when Marc Jacobs first came out with the Stella bag.  I was working in the Nordstrom handbag department and women were oohing and ahhing over what I thought was an overpriced handbag that was way too heavy from the hardware on it. 

And who was Marc Jacobs anyways?

Back then I was a neo in the world of high-end designer handbags.  Think of it as my junior year in handbag school - just graduating from a decade of Coach, DKNY, and Guess handbags. 

Now my world has opened up to handbags in the four and five figure range.  Yes, I can thank Mr. Jacobs for that.
