The Key to Success When Selling to Department Stores
If you're a fashion designer interested in selling to U.S. department stores, you may find this piece by Lauren Crowe to be of interest.  Recently Crowe attended a talk given by Mary Gehlher where she learns some tips for making sure your collection is a success in department stores. 

NordstromsDesignerHandbags.jpg As a designer, I don't have any experience in this area, however, I would agree that meeting in-person with the sales team and buyers is key.  I would recommend talking to the buyer to see if you could do a trunk show where you come in to talk with customers and help the salespeople become more familiar with your brand and its products.  When I worked at Nordstrom, the jewelry department always had trunk shows and it was nice to be able to meet designers in person.
